Notability & references edit

This individual does not appear notable:

  • Being on an Olympic task force does not confer notability.
  • Unable to find widely-cited publications in Google Scholar.
  • Unable to find any reviews of his books.
  • References to his books appear to be references to chapters authored by others, and fail to mention his name.
  • Only detailed coverage of the subject was in an article written by himself. See article in DC.
  • Only detailed coverage of the subject is in Dynamic Chiropractic, a publication that does not meet RS (at least for establishing notability). This publication—both online and in print—is available for no or free subscription.

There is certainly no consensus that Dynamic Chiropractic does not meet RS. It is disingenuous for you to imply otherwise. In fact, consensus at Chiropractic has determined that its usage there meets RS, and outside opinions from WP:RSN recently stated that it was reliable for its usage at Stephen J. Press. But, you already know this because this has been pointed previously. For you to keep repeating that it is not a reliable source constitutes a violation of WP:IDHT and is considered tendentious editing. Please stop. DigitalC (talk) 22:27, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

A. There is more coming:
B. I found and added an article in the Miami Herald;
C. The {{BLP sources}} tag is set up to look for "Tom Hyde", and almost all the references are under "Thomas E. Hyde, DC', so that's red herring.

If the references are under "Thomas E. Hyde" is that a more appropriate name for the article? Is there some reason it was named Tom Hyde? --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

D. The Book he Co-edited was one of the MOST successful texts ever published by a regular medical publisher; that's the reason he was INVITED to do a second edition.

The source of this information, the success of this text in a reliable source, might be sufficient to keep the article. Is it properly sourced to a reliable third party reference? This should be easy to find. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

E. He was the FIRST DC ever accepted to the volunteer doctors program at the USOTC;

If this is so notable, it should be in a regular newspaper somewhere, without him being the author, and this could also suffice to establish notability. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

F. he was perhaps the first DC to be appointed to a Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sport

See E. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

G. Unlike me, he's pathologically modest, and that's why there is a dearth of articles about this man who has played a pivotal role in shaping modern Sports Chiropractic. Д-рСДжП,ДС 21:22, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's not really about modesty or not. If someone is notable others will write about them, whether they want the publicity or not. His tooting his own horn won't establish notability. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Also, I know that "other crap exists", but there are numerous examples of other articles relying for "notability" on similar trade publications, and not on major media articles. I would like to know, aside from your own feelings about Chiropractic, why this publication which is CINAHL referenced, is inadequate to establish notability, but others are? Д-рСДжП,ДС 23:21, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

You should feel free to tag any other crap with a PROD or nominate it for deletion, the absolute best thing to do when other crap exists. Rather than arguing it shows support for your article you seem to be agreeing that your article is crap. If other crap exists, nominate it for deletion, it says nothing about whether or not this article should stay. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I understand that the Wyoming C.A.'s journal is a little weak, but as Secretary-general, it was HIS job to write these things, so there's very little he didn't write himself to show these positions.Д-рСДжП,ДС 15:36, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Clearly meets "Criteria 1 and 2" of "any Biography", under WP:ANYBIO. And criterion 1 of WP:CREATIVE. Д-рСДжП,ДС 06:02, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I too want to add that practically every DC on earth knows Dr. Hyde. If he's not "notable", then no one in Chiropractic is notable. User:Platinumphotographer ppgdc 04:54, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

An encyclopedia isn't a collection of people that others know, it's a collection of articles about topics and people that authorities consider notable. So, it comes down to, is he notable? Not, is he knowable? --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 21:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

AfD edit

I nominated the article for deletion because I think it's not notable enough. I can't see him in many of the sources given. --MW talk contribs 20:03, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Paywalled sources edit

Someone may have access to these sources to determine if they are of use to this article. I do not have access to them.

Publications section edit

Should the bibliography section contain the information for the peer-reviewed articles, rather than just references to them?

A search of pubmed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=%22Hyde%20TE%22[Author]&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVAbstract) indicates that he co-authored another two articles:

  • Functional scores and subjective responses of injured workers with back or neck pain treated with chiropractic care in an integrative program: a retrospective analysis of 100 cases. J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 2009 Nov-Dec;32(9):765-71. PMID: 20004804
  • Evaluation of the disodium salt of 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-stilbene disulfonic acid for estrogenic activity. J Toxicol Environ Health. 1996 Jun 7;48(2):141-9. PMID: 8642622

Although, it is possible that the second one might be a different T.E. Hyde, as it doesn't seem to be in the field of chiropractic. Without seeing the actual paper to see the author information though, it is hard to tell. DigitalC (talk) 00:40, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • 21st Century Paradigm. J Amer Chiropr Assoc 2005 Jan-Feb;42(1):8-15

Found another publication. DigitalC (talk) 01:16, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Web bios - opinions as to whether of them meet WP:RS for this article edit

Any opinions? DigitalC (talk) 01:13, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

President of the FCA edit

I have found some non-reliable sources that Hyde was President of the Florida Chiropractic Association. If anyone can find a reliable source that states this, and add it to the article, I think that would be an improvement. DigitalC (talk) 16:30, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually, if anyone has access to this paywalled source, it may offer some details - "HISPANIC AFFAIRS BOARD WELCOMES BANK EXECUTIVE". Miami Herald. May 20, 1990.. Google shows that it says "Other positions Hyde holds are director of the Dade County Chiropractic Society and director of the Florida Chiropractic Association", but the Miami Herald preview doesn't show that. DigitalC (talk) 16:47, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll grab these later in the day. These would certainly be appropriate sources to establish notability, that a general publication newspaper mentions him in these positions. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 19:06, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
