tidiane.net claims N'Diaye has a PhD in economy and anthropology, but there are no details of where and when he was educated. He was apparently born in Senegal and acquired French citizenship, so I suppose he studied in France, but his year and place of birth is also unknown (he's probably in his forties).
His main claim to notability is his "veiled genocide" (2008) which appeared in German translation in 2010, and which I imagine is going to appear in English translation too.
His work on the history of slavery is apparently well-received. Not so sure about his earlier stuff on "black civilizations", apparently this is the generic run-of-the-mill Afrocentrism deal. For some reason, Senegalese writers cannot write about their history without going into Ancient Egypt. Meaning that N'Diaye appears to stand in the tradition of Cheikh Anta Diop. Still, he appears to be able to rise above racial pseudohistory and present a clean account of the Arab slave trade. At least the reviews I have seen grant that he sheds light on an important and hitherto-neglected chapter in history, even though he keeps getting distracted into needless polemics against Islam.
