Move request
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: not moved, base name turned into dab, song redirect moved to The Shift (song). -- JHunterJ (talk) 18:13, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
The Shift (film) → The Shift – Currently, this article uses parentheses only because once someone created an article for the song "The Shift" from The Beach Boys' Surfin' Safari, which has been deemed unnotable and thus been redirected to the album page. As there's now only one article named "The Shift", it should have the primary page and a hatnote should redirect users to the Beach Boys album, rather than the other way around, as is the case now. --The Evil IP address (talk) 16:26, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose. A proposal without benefit to any readers anywhere. At all! Even those readers who know this film called "The Shift" and are looking for an article on it. How would they benefit by this loss of precision? Also, too easily confused with Shift (see very many meanings at that DAB page; I have just added Shift (album) there), and a great number of topics like Shifting (linguistics), Shifter (bicycle part), and a host of others that readers may have a hazy sense of, but not know an exact name for. If they were after a film, they might not be able to distinguish this one from Graveyard Shift (film), Swing Shift (film), or Night Shift (film). Give them help, by at least showing that "The Shift" is also a film – one that is treated under the rubric The Shift (film). Capitalisation is no help; nor can "the" be relied on to assist readers. See "the Shift" in linguistic usage (see another instance). It would often be capitalised like that (despite how Wikipedia style conventions would have it), because some shift or other is taken to be a major feature in the development of a language, and to deserve special naming.
- (Easy, yes? ☺)

- Oppose - can't see the point at all in removing disambiguators for peripheral subjects, this 15min short needs a parenthesis. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:16, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- Comment. This is not even the best-known movie called The Shift.[1] Kauffner (talk) 04:03, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose not the primary topic per comments above. A disambiguation page should be situtated there. (so redirect to Shift (disambiguation) or create a new page) 70.24.251.208 (talk) 05:12, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
- Comment the edit history of The Shift (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (and its categories) should be moved to The Shift (song). 70.24.251.208 (talk) 05:15, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
