The article cites a source for Ivor Foster's early advocacy and appearance on the cover, but that source makes no mention at all of the song. Anybody have a better source? Drhoehl (talk) 00:02, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The source IS the cover, which states 'Sung by Mr. Ivor Foster'. That statement was copied from the cover into the article. The footnote leads to a web page giving a short biography of Mr. Foster for the interest of the reader, as he does not yet have his own wikipedia page. P0mbal (talk) 19:38, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think citing a reference for a fact that doesn't actually appear there is rather confusing; hence, I added a bit of pertinent info about Foster from the bio (which, as you rightly point out, is quite interesting) and left the reference appended to that. What I'd suggest for the bit about his name's inclusion on early editions is a reference to an actual sheet music publication--something like Elgar, Edward, "The Pipes of Pan," London: Boosey, 1899 (or whatever is appropriate for the particular edition that you had in hand when you added the information, formatted however Wikipedia style says to do it). That would direct the reader to the specific publication giving rise to the fact cited. As I don't have the music myself, however, I'll leave it to you to fill in that particular blank.
