Weird movie. I think it's probably worth mentioning in the article that the movie is divided into days and each day it's clearly indicated that the protagonist does not sleep. The shots of him lying in bed each day his eyes are open and the light over him fades night to day indicating it is a time lapsed shot. The man awakens and engages in meditative exercises kind of like Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks and many other sources which will insist meditation can supplement sleep for several days. Because the man does not sleep etc. he's presumably in a delirious or psychedelic state of some kind throughout the course of the film. He slips in and out of day dreams and while usually somber and disengaged lashes out at times in ways that is indicative of not having slept for some time -- presumably he does not sleep so that his mission cannot be thwarted.
