Cult classic why?

I'm sick of every low grossing suckfest movie eventually being called a cult classic. The term doesn't even fit for this and I doubt anyone can site any proof that this film has a cult following. As a result I'm deleting that reference. Deepintexas (talk) 20:21, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering why the article does not mention that the film is a cult classic, since it is and I can provide WP:Reliable sources for that; see this Google search, which shows good and poor sources referring to it as a cult classic. I see where Deepintexas (talk · contribs) removed the text. By "reference," he meant text without a citation, which is what I figured but wanted to be sure of. Also, if you look at this Rotten Tomatoes source, you can see that the audience, minus the critics, generally liked this film. Flyer22 (talk) 08:12, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

If Helen Slater was signing anything at a comic book convention, then she was of course there because she was Super Girl. The fact that someone may have had her signing things from other movies is neither here nor there, and certainly does not make something a "cult classic". Surely you wouldn't say that every movie she has been in is a "cult classic" just because she signed something for that movie at a comic book convention? Here's my thing, the term cult classic is obviously subjective, but if we apply it to every movie, then it ceases to have any meaning, and therefore, why use it at all? I personally attend many midnight movies on the weekends, and the movies that are "cult classics", are the ones that get shown again and again. Like once a year or more. This movie has never been shown here or even requested. Heck, it doesn't even meet any of the qualifications for the Wikipedia page on cult film. This is where WP:Ping is a good thing. This is likely my last time WP:Pinging you to this discussion since I assume that you will check back here if you want to read replies. You can also put this article on your WP:Watchlist. As for whether or not the film is a cult class, I go by the WP:Reliable sources with WP:Due weight; see what WP:Due weight states. If only a few sources call a film a cult classic, then we can validly give WP:In-text attribution to the matter. Also, do you mind stating what country and/or city you live in since you stated, "This movie has never been shown here or even requested."? The film used to get played over and over again in the U.S. (not everywhere in the U.S. perhaps), in the same vein as Teen Witch, which is why I think it gained cult-classic status. Also, looking at reviews for it on YouTube, it seems that people generally think fondly of this film; there is a nostalgia factor playing into some of that. Flyer22 (talk) 03:35, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
