Long Overdue Addition edit

Having recently watched this film, this article is a long overdue addition.Marcd30319 (talk) 14:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, watching it on TCM was the impulse behind my adding it. I'm not sure how successful it is as a film, but it certainly is noteworthy, for many reasons. BTW Thanks for correcting the date on "One, Two, Three" - I don't know where I came up with 1953, must not have had my brain in gear. I added this iamge that I found at GunsmokeNet.com. I think I did all of the fair-use ntofications, but a review may be in order.Marcd30319 (talk) 16:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Plot Summary edit

I wrote a very brief plot summary that provides a high-level overview. I incorporated several paragraph from the opening into the summary. I hope this is satisfactory. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcd30319 (talkcontribs) 23:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm... I'm not sure. It's fine the way it is, except that it's really not a "plot summary" per se, more of a description of the film -- and I kind of hate to lose those two descriptive grafs from the lede. On the other hand, when I was thinking of whether we needed a plot section or not, I really thought it had to be kept quite short, so I like that aspect of it.

Let me live with it a bit -- and thanks for your valuable participation, it's really made it possible for the article to get into decent shape much more quickly then I ever expected. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 00:29, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I made one change, making the title of the section "Description". Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 00:50, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

This looks good! I tried to emulate the Plot Summary for the article on the Patton movie. Since The Gallant Hours is based on actual events, like Patton, a detailed plot summary would be pretty redundant. Good job!Marcd30319 (talk) 15:45, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Recent Additions edit

I added info from James Cagney's autobiography (Cagney by Cagney) an James McCabe's biography Cagney. I also added info about technical advisors, as well as new sections - Reception, Home Video, and Bibliography. I hope this is helpful.Marcd30319 (talk) 17:33, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I also added Image:The Gallant Hours VHS cover.jpg. Marcd30319 (talk) 00:27, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Arrival edit

I guess we'll know that this article has really "arrived" when someone besides you and I edits it! Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 22:44, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think the article is ready for primetime. I certainly can fin nothing else to add.Marcd30319 (talk) 21:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm certainly happy with it. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 23:04, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Five Week Period edit

All of the review that I have seen states that The Gallant Hours takes place over a five-week period. Recalling my recent viewing of the fiulm on TCM, I do remember that the flashback begins on 18 October 1942. The TV Guide film review gives that dates as October 18 to December 1, 1942. However, Adsmiral Yamamoto was killed on 18 April 1943, exactly sixth months after Admiral Halsey took command of the South Pacific Forces. Maybe we need to add a Historical Accuracy section. I have E.B. Potter's biography on Halsy, but it is packed away. Also, the Wikipedia article on Halsey is pretty slim on details.Marcd30319 (talk) 13:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Added Historical Accuracy section, with See also as its sub-section. Also added Cast notes under Cast, with info about actor who played Rear Admirasl Richmond K. TurnerMarcd30319 (talk) 15:20, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Halsey's conference with Callaghan & Scott is also dubious; I don't have a book handy, but I don't think Halsey was on Guadalcanal during that battle. They'd have been meeting with Turner, if anyone.
Also, is the incident at the beginning — when the Japanese make an abortive effort to shoot down a plane which might be carrying a senior American officer — accurate? I've wondered if it was ... overemphasized ... to help justify the Yamamoto shootdown.
But I think I'd cut them some slack on using F6Fs to portray F4Fs, unless they were identified as Hellcats. I presume the film makers used the planes because their appearance is similar and they were more available when the film was made.

In "The Gallant Hours", there are several shots of a Aux. Tender, AD??. I believe the pics were taken in San Diego. They look like a Destroyer Tender rather than a Sub Tender. Can anyone ID this Tender? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Galvston (talkcontribs) 15:41, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
