Dravidian party?
editcan this be classified as a dravidian party?. It was a splinter of Congress. Dont we define Dravidian parties as those who can trace their lineage back to Dravidar kazhagam?--Sodabottle (talk) 11:24, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Not exactly. But it would if you see that TMM was launched to fulfil Sivaji's political aspirations which wasn't brilliant when he was in Tamil National Party or later in Congress. After MGR's death he was keen on having his Tamil National Party back although Sampath and Kannadasan were dead by that time. If am right, at the time when TNP merged with Congress, EVR was on Kamaraj's side. However, I do not have any RS to back all this up. So if it doesn't look like a DP for others I don't have a problem of it being removed from the template. Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 14:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- The 'Dravidian parties' category is quite problematic, there's no clear-cut demarkation between Dravidian and non-Dravidian parties. --Soman (talk) 15:05, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Aha...The TMM being the political successor to TNP angle makes sense. i didnt think of TNP earlier. For people like me, who grew up hearing of Sivaji as the Congress campaigner, he was just another congress faction leader. I just remember his "en pillaigalae" pitch :-). It does have Dravidian pedigree. To Soman: you are correct about the no clear cut demarcation for the later parties and splinters, but the older ones have clear claim to Dravidian Party tag. --Sodabottle (talk) 16:08, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
