Merge

The merge proposal in question is "that [the self-described, but completely non-compliant, hndis page Tess (character)] be merged into [the accompanying given-name SIA page's secn] Tess#People named Tess"^{--Jerzy•t 08:29, 15 August 2011 (UTC)}

Proposed', though not sure if separate section for fictional characters should be created there. Certainly, it doesn't seem to be a valid dab, as they seem to all be partial matches. But it's a difficult one. Any thoughts? Boleyn (talk) 11:04, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

   A review of the edit history shows that a Rdr, under the title in question, was reused in 2006 as the title of a list that would now be described as a SIA. (However, i'm 99% sure that "SIA" had not be defined at the time: {{Shipindex}} had been introduced abt six months earlier, and there had probably been no serious consideration of the eventual generalization of that concept. I don't recall whether it would then have failed to qualify as a Dab, nor whether it would have failed to qualify as a {{hndis}} at the time it was retagged that way.)
   I am retagging the article as an SIA, and i propose that this merge discussion be closed and discussion(s) opened, if someone desires, on whether the title should be changed to something more clearly appropriate to an SIA, and/or whether a deletion process is in order.

   I suggest, more specifically, that another admin close the merge proposal -- without prejudice to opening a new one, or a del process -- on the grounds that its stated assumptions are fundamentally flawed: ideally the page should have been cleaned up (IMO by retagging) at the point when it had both a Dab tag and, on its face, a purpose contrary to the then-current Dab guidelines, and/or the point when it had both a HNdis tag and a correspondingly contrary purpose. Since it was not, any proposal should either refute my retagging it as an SIA, or attack my claim that it has since mid-1996 -- except for mistagging -- always met all the standards that are now specific to SIAs.
   (It may be an unworthy WP pg, or its substance may be worthy of merging, but the fact of its bearing tags that neither were endorsed by the creators of its substance, nor make any sense in terms of its substance, must not be permitted to distort what its problems may be.)
