I love Taters. They are tasty. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradfordwalker (talkcontribs) 03:28, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

6 May 2006 edit

Since when is Sam the person/character who "most prominently used" the word "tater"? I mean honestly, I think I can safely say that I have used it more in the past 2 weeks than Sam did in the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. CombatRaven 23:34, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

TaterTater (disambiguation) – Clear primary topic at Potato, page should redirect to it. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 19:10, 19 March 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. SITH (talk) 19:32, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Sangdeboeuf (talk) 00:33, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
The clarity eludes me. Just as likely to refer to tater tots. Google agrees.[1] AjaxSmack  00:02, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Nearly all those images are labeled "Tater tot(s)", not "Tater(s)". Honestly, nobody ever calls tater tots "taters". Just ask Google. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 01:19, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'm convinced. Just thought there should be a discussion.  AjaxSmack  22:51, 21 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak support - I was going to oppose, but the disambig page is nearly empty. I think tater should just redirect to tater tots, as its Etymology section better explains this colloquial term than just redirecting to potato. -- Netoholic @ 06:38, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Switching to Oppose because the main point of a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT is to be used in wikilinking, and in this case I think we want to fully avoid any editor using a link to tater in an article. Its a slang term, and if it is really called for, they can use a piped link. -- Netoholic @ 20:10, 24 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Should the DAB page be deleted per WP:TWODABS? The other entries are false matches.  AjaxSmack  22:51, 21 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
      • I guess technically there are three entries, so little harm in keeping the DAB. I've added some search templates to the page. There may be some additional items found using them that could be listed. -- Netoholic @ 01:12, 22 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Common, if now probably slightly archaic, English term for potato, appearing in many literary works (including The Lord of the Rings). Tater tots aren't commonly referred to as taters. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:01, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, no benefit 2601:541:4500:1760:2047:62AA:BD6A:51C6 (talk) 21:49, 28 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, mainly per Netoholic. I don't consider this to be particularly helpful for readers and editors. feminist (talk) 14:57, 4 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
