Norman Pierce edit

Haven't found an authoritative source, but it seems that Norman bought 400 Haight St. San Francisco record store "Jack's Record Cellar" in 1961, moved the store to 254 Scott St., and began to distribute records. (Not to be confused with Brit actor Norm Pierce born in 1900.) EG see Inside Jack's Record Cellar and/or Roots of Madness Twang (talk) 01:19, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect claim about 'control' from Ace Records in UK edit

The article currently contains the statement that I believe is inaccurate and ought to be removed. The Takoma Records label is now controlled by Ace Records. [4] - The link refers to this page: https://acerecords.co.uk/takoma-label

Just a bit of context. Ace is a reissue label, that is ultimately acquiring rights/original masters to either particular albums or entire catalogs of various labels from the past, to make some OOP stuff available again, potentially in new formats, packages, etc.

They've been dealing with some releases from Takoma catalog for quite a while, see the same label's profile page on their website (same text, everything) as far back as May 2006, when they launched the previous website design: https://web.archive.org/web/20060509225229/http://www.acerecords.co.uk/content.php?page_id=61&label=1384. All the way back to Newsletters from June 1996 (as far back as Archive.org is available): https://web.archive.org/web/19970625170332/http://www.acerecords.co.uk/gotrt/jun96/fahkotlang01.html - they already did some reissues, long before the original Takoma was even sold to Concord Music Group

They also do the same with several other labels, like Stax, Vanguard, Fantasy Records (in the past) - see relevant pages in their catalog as well: https://acerecords.co.uk/stax-label, for instance. And it is still officially part of Concord, which you can verify on their website: https://concord.com/labels/stax-records/

To be fair, Takoma is not presented on Concord's website anymore; but there are no press releases, news reports, or any mentions in the extensive Ace Records history published on their website of them ever properly acquiring and merging with Takoma as a label. The fact that they own some rights to reissue particular releases from their back catalog (maybe even original masters, but nothing indicates they do so for ENTIRE catalog) is very far from them controlling the label as business entity.

I think that this info needs to be removed to avoid creating confusion. Or maybe rephrased to "Some of the most popular releases from Takoma's back catalog had been reissued by Ace Records (UK)" or something along those lines — Preceding unsigned comment added by LevKantor (talkcontribs) 16:43, 25 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
