Lebanese component

A user is claiming that many of the people comprising the Syrian diaspora are Lebanese. A source should be presented and discussed here to make sure that its not misunderstood.--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 17:18, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

If you look at the table under "Syrian populations in the diaspora" you will see that the total number could be no more than 10 million people even with the current more than 4 million Refugees of the Syrian Civil War. Do not forget that many people of the current Syrian government still dream of Greater Syria with Lebanon.

That is why there is a need for clarification as follows:

The Syrians living outside of Syria are estimated to be from 8 to possibly around 15 million,Here however, it has to be noted that many of these 15 million people within the diaspora are descendants of Lebanese people since present-day Lebanon was part of Ottoman Syria and French Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon during the time of the first waves of immigration and many of the Lebanese immigrants were wrongly classified as "Syrians". If you are a member of the current Syrian government you do not even recognize Lebanon as a state. It is simply a province within Greater Syria. Right? By the way, do you agree that the number is too inflated to start with? Our Lebanese diaspora number also goes to 14-15 million and most realistic accounts put the number of the Lebanese diaspora at around 8 million. See: Lebanese diaspora. Greater Syria was a concept invented by a Lebanese. Current government have an Embassy in Lebanon so it does recognize it officially. As for their internal feelings then that is their own private opinion. We only work with sources. Your clarification is made by you which is an original research strongly discouraged in Wikipedia.

As for the numbers, yes like every thing in the middle east or with middle east roots, its exaggerated. But the fact remains, this article is talking about the Syrians from the republic of Syria and its "exaggerated number" is about Syrians from that republic, no Lebanese counted.--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 17:34, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

"This article is talking about the Syrians from the republic of Syria" BUT did you see before my changes the article about Syrian diaspora was starting like that "Syrian diaspora refers to the native Syrian and Lebanese people, living outside Syria and Lebanon, as either immigrants or refugees." He was born at a time when no Lebanon existed (only a mountain). Forget about him, the one who wrote that "Syrian diaspora refers to the native Syrian and Lebanese people" obviously misrepresented the source. Bouthaina Shabaan did not mention the word "Lebanese" and this article doe not include anyone from the state of Lebanon and shouldnt include them as well.--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 17:46, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

We are the north-west Semites (with tons of foreign blood thanks to all the invasions from every damn place on earth). We practically have the same genes (excluding the tribal areas in the Syrian east who are not Levantines). We share many foods, habits, dances, music and accent (the levantine arabic). However, Lebanon is a state since 1920. This should be respected. We cant use history all the time. Austria was German but today its Austria. Lebanon is Lebanon. Lebanese people are my brothers but I dont want their home for my self. So, we can still remember our origin just like cousins know that they have the same grandfather but that does not mean that they need to live in the same house.--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 18:08, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

@Attar-Aram syria: This is such a defeatist attitude, you accept fate just because you can't change it today, but we should not limit ourself to the box. The difference between what set a Lebanese Lebanese and what made a Syrian Syrian is where the french decided to put the line for sectarian based reasons. Lebanon is not a product of a people, it's the product of a colonial project. The french had to cheat on the only census that Lebanon ever did to give priority of one sect over others. The main concern in Lebanon is always whether they will be able to dominate or be dominated. No one is saying whether Lebanon should remain in existence or not today since there are other priorities but this is insulting to suggest that what happened back then was a natural or a formation of a nation when it was clearly not. France did not care about the interests of the locals and you should not know that when you consider that you lost territory to Turkey because of France. I wish all the people within Syria and Lebanon had the same understanding about ethnic origins and not to try to invent and reinvent ethnic differences (and taking some of the region's history only for themselves) in order to create conflict and separations.
