Confusion/Synthesis?

In the first fly-by in preparing to review article for the DYK cited above, some questions arose:

• Is the phenomenon restricted to the North America? While the article as now written presents the term only in that context, am curious as whether it is or might be applied elsewhere, and if so how title might be considered in a WP:Worldwide view? Should the title reflect this with the addtion of "in North America?" Would be good to avoid a future tagging:

• The term White Anglo Saxon Protestant is used in the introduction, while the term European American is used in the Overview section. They are different and in contradiction to each other as presented.
• A claim is made with regard to language preceding the list of self-identified ethic groups in the USA. Can there be a an in-line citation added?

Think it's a very interesting topic and article is generally well structured/ref'd, etc, and would like to see it go somewhere. Djflem (talk) 13:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

The term was introduced for the social phenomenon in the US, so yeah, it applies to the US only. Some people might use it for Canada, Europe, etc., but the term by Gans is for the US.

I flagged it with a globalize because although the term may have developed in America, it is clearly a more widespread phenomenon and examples can be found over the world although not necessarily referred to with the same name in the literature. Catrìona (talk) 18:24, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
