1965 version

edit

Added some basic info on the original version of the show, based on a viewing of an ep. at the Museum of TV & Radio. However, I may need to go back and double-check to make sure I remembered correctly, so consider it a placeholder for now (and feel free to edit if it's inaccurate at all). Edited out now.69.68.112.219 19:07, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Supermarket Sweep on GSN

edit

It'd be good to see this show on GSN. We seen an episode of Shop til you Drop last year during a countdown, I hope they get rights to SS. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nextbarker (talkcontribs) 16:59, 8 February 2007 (UTC). Repositioning Trivia to other parts of the article

edit

Just wanted to make a statement that I made a significant effort to reposition a LOT of the trivia to different parts of the article. If things are misspelled, grammatically incorrect, or just don't make sense, I just want everyone to realize that I just repositioned and attempted to reword numerous discrepancies in this article. I do think that this article is too wordy in its Gameplay(1990) section and needs to be completely overhauled. Just my 2 cents. WiiAlbanyGirl 06:47, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cruft, cruft, cruft... cleanup begun

edit

I've started a massive undertaking of cleaning up this article. Like several other game show articles, this one's become littered with trivia that quite frankly is unimportant, and opens itself up to mistakes and inaccuracies. The casual user of Wikipedia does not need to know exactly what year a "Bonus" first appeared, ended, or changed value; nor does every exact rule for each of the question games need to be explained in detail. I'm not even sure all of the information that exists now is entirely correct. I would encourage anyone who further considers editing this page to check out Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Notability, and Wikipedia:fancruft. --Goldrushcavi 00:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would argue that it is not appropriate to feature a list of every bonus the show offered during game play. The article on The Price is Right doesn't feature a list of pricing games; I would argue that it is not appropriate to list all bonuses here either. Please feel free to discuss. I feel as if it should stay as it is, considering they are hard facts, far from fancruft. DawgDeputy (talk) 12:38, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Every piece of merchandise in the Sears catalog would be a "hard fact", as an example. But we don't list all of it. Modor (talk) 17:21, 8 February 2018 (UTC)ModorReply

30-second shootout

edit

Some anonymous editors, presumably vandals, keep adding that the 30-second shootout lasted 40 seconds in the early days of its playing. I've been removing it on the premise that it was called this because it lasted 30 seconds and was also worth 30 seconds. If someone can prove with a reliable source that the original time limit was different, I'll leave it in (not that it's notable...), but until then I will continue to revert these minute tinkerings with the article that the anonymous users seem to love to continue doing. --Goldrushcavi 16:16, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

This has gone on for 11 years. No source has ever been added. I have removed this fact and will ask for vandalism protection if it continues. Modor (talk) 06:59, 8 February 2018 (UTC)ModorReply

Bonus Specials?

edit

The section used to have this at the end:

When the show moved to ABC in September 1993, a fourth bonus worth $250 (the "Super Bonus") was added to the market; during certain special weeks (starting in 1993), another was added (a $300 "Super Super Bonus"), which replaced the $50 bonus. This is the only bonus feature to appear in every episode.

I'm deleting it for now because it doesn't make sense. Nowhere else in the article does it mention the show moving to ABC in 1993, or moving ANYWHERE in 1993. It is listed as Lifetime from 90-95. Secondly, "This is the only bonus feature to appear in every episode." - "this" could refer to a number of things in the paragraph which isn't clear. Also "A fourth bonus was added" - this section doesn't mention any "three" bonuses, so what are the first three?

I would also like it if someone could clarify in the article:

Scattered throughout the market were stuffed animals, inflated balloons of products, or cardboard promotional signs for products with bonus tags on them. The shopper was credited with the item if he got it back to the check-out counter before time expired, assuming he got it over the red line by the registers without breaking it.

What did the contestant have to get? a stuffed animal? a balloon or sign? or the product shown on those signs? This is confusing. It was not previously clarified in the Big Sweep section whether contestants had to get to the finish line for their basket's to count, or whether they could just sit in the market. This section implies that they have to get the bonus item to the checkout, but is that special for the bonus item?

In the third bonus, it says "changed back to 3 on The All New Supermarket Sweep" - the title "all new supermarket sweep" is not mentioned anywhere in the article; how is a reader supposed to know what this refers to? TheHYPO 16:11, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've attempted to rewrite this section for a tad more clarity. Let me know if it could use further work. Modor (talk) 19:41, 9 February 2018 (UTC)ModorReply

Logo Transformations

edit

I added images of all logos used by the show since its inception. I wasn't sure about the copyright, being logos from the show, but I assumed because I edited all of them onto one page, it was my own original work. If the image copyright is wrong, please help me to change it, rather than deleting it. Bttfvgo 09:29, 4 September 2008 (UTC).

First two sentences

edit

Why is the first sentence in present tense, and the second in past? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.27.235.140 (talk) 01:15, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I fixed it once, someone reverted it. I have changed it back to "was" again to match the rest of the verb tense in the rest of the article. There hasn't been a new show produced since 2003. --Arx Fortis (talk) 00:40, 8 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
As the show still exists, the article should be written in the present tense. The article should be changed to accommodate this. The JPStalk to me 10:28, 8 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Date changes...

edit

Whosoever constantly changed the date when Supermarket Sweep last aired on PAX must have irrefutable evidence as to the actual date. DawgDeputy (talk) 04:17, 26 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Third opinion

edit
  Response to third opinion request:
Basically, if the information about the games aren't sourced, they shouldn't be in the article; simple as that. Erpert blah, blah, blah... 20:36, 8 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sources for International Versions

edit

So, koavf recently removed the table for international versions of Sweep. His reasoning was due to there not being any reliable sources. This got me thinking about which sources to add. There isn't a lot of actual articles for these international adaptations, only YouTube videos of promos or episode recordings. I want to know if we can use those, as proof that those versions happened. BrickMaster02 (talk) 23:44, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
