Phonetic transcription of Stretham

edit

I don't agree with the phonemic transcription of the pronunciation of Stretham. I think it should be /stretəm/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.134.29.69 (talk) 21:13, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Stretham /ˈstrɛtæm/ was formed from Stretchstrɛtʃ/ and ham /ˈhæm/ (OED)
According to IPA chart for English dialects (British) /ˈstrɛtæm/ is pronounced as follows
  • s as in see, city, pass
  • t as in two, sting, bet
  • r as in run, very
  • ɛ as in bed
  • t as in two, sting, bet
  • æ as in lad, bad, cat or alternatively ə as in about
  • m as in man, ham
/ˈstrɛtəm/ is an alternative pronunciation; /stretəm/ is not an alternative due to the /e/ --Senra (talk) 22:49, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

After further research listening to local people, I have added a reference to the local pronunciation as Stre'em, phonetically locally /ˈstrɛʔɛm/ --Senra (talk) 10:47, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
