Rita or Stephanie

Also were the Armenian kings of the Eastern Orthodox Church or Armenian Apostolic Church? And was Stephanie either of those religion or did she converted to Catholicism on her marriage to John of Brienne.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 18:27, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I think it is most likely she was named Rita by her parents but changed her name to Stephanie upon marriage, as many Armenian sources name her Rita but any sources to do with her husband name her Stephanie. They were Eastern Orthodox--David (talk) 19:08, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

It would make sense for them to be as most surrounding powers such as the Byzantine emperors were of the Orthodox church, plus Armenia was a Kingdom named Cilicia back then (I don't know why all monarchs and royalty from this Kingdom must be referred to as of Armenia--David (talk) 19:15, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it appears they were Armenian Apostolic Church, the issue of their reference to as of Armenia still confuses me, they did technically rule Armenia but it was a Kingdom called Cilicia so shouldn't they all be of Cilicia???--David (talk) 19:33, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

The Kingdom of Cilicia was the successor state of the medieval Armenian kingdom. Many Armenians migrated to Cilicia after the fall of their kingdom to the Muslims and establish the kingdom there.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 19:37, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
