why it is in english language only hungarian name? in other languages there is also german name: Staré Hory (deutsch Altgebirg, ungarisch Óhegy) ?? Why there is hungarian name at all? Village of Stare Hory is part of Slovakia, never was under any hungarian influence, no hungarians have lived there. There is no reason for hungarian name of this village in its English description. I would like to start with the simple indication of the geographical names from the history of Slovakia. They are written in Hungarian, what can be seen in almost every article. The official geographical names have been, until 1867, in Latin. The map-making in Upper Hungary (present Slovakia) used the Hungarian names sporadically in the southern parts (names of villages). It changed in the year 1897 by the Bánffy laws, which forced the names of villages to be stated in Hungarian. If we abide the rules that geographical titles should bear their historical names then the geographical names in the Hungarian Kingdom until the year 1867 should be in Latin.
