Wiki for the school

I just created http://www.stmarytx.ORG, a wiki for the school, and am in the process of building the page. Odessaukrain 03:50, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo c3.png

 

Image:Logo c3.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Section Renamed

I renamed the "Distinguished Graduates" section to "Notable Alumni" to avoid confusion with the actual Distinguished Alumni Award and Distinguished Law Graduate Award given by the Alumni Association and Law Alumni Association.Ranucci (talk) 04:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

No University Seal?

The article does not appear to be protected, nor has it been in the past; I'm sorry if this does not mesh with your fantasies of abusive administrators. I'd love to field your question about the seal, but I don't really feel like helping you. Kuru (talk) 18:44, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Notable Alumni

I added Mary Lynne Gasaway Hill, American poet, writer and professor to the "Notable Alumni" section, and linked it to her Wiki page.

I did want to note my COI with Mary Lynne Gasaway Hill here in the Talk page.

However, I checked the COI rules, and it looks like this edit is in compliance with the guidelines.

Student Organizations

Overserving the wiki pages for surrounding colleges, there is detailed information about the student organizations, and so I think we should replicate the work done on the University of Texas at San Antonio wiki page. That being said the revisions made by ELKevbo where not helpful in this respect. The notes on the revision, cited the section as unsourced and unessiarily details. The first objection to the section seems to stand, but the latter does not stand up to scrutiny when the UTSA page is observed. And why exactly does an encyclopedia article need a detailed listing of every student organization at this university? That really seems to fall afoul of many of our policies and practices e.g., WP:DUE, WP:NOT, WP:UNIGUIDE.

I took a look at the WP:UNIGUIDE, and I found section 6.4 to be the basis of including student organizations, though perhaps it should be rebranded as student life. While an exhaustive list may certainly run astray of the guidelines, I think that the organizations that have a presence on other campuses should be in this section since that would resolve the issue of a overly detailed list by bringing this page into accord with other university pages. Perhaps a replication of the student life section from the University of Texas at San Antonio page. Student life is broken down into four generic sections:
  • Residential Life
  • Greek Life
  • ROTC Programs
  • Student Government
With that partition, organization, and replication I think it will bring this page in compliance with other major university sites such as Texas A&M University, Yale University, and Rice University. This would bring it to the guidelines you mentioned and standardize this page with other major wiki pages for universities.

You have acknowledged that "an exhaustive list may certainly run astray of the guidelines" but you've added the list back into this article. You haven't said anything about WP:DUE and WP:NOT, project-wide policies that govern all articles and clearly discourage this kind of detailed listing. I strongly recommend that you review those policies.
If you want to see some articles that should be models, you should focus on looking at articles that have been specifically judged as being high quality. For articles about U.S. colleges and universities, Georgetown University and Pomona College are good examples as they're both featured articles, the highest quality articles in this project. Note how they don't have a detailed listing of student organizations but instead provide an overview and context for readers. Please remember that this is an encyclopedia for all readers; it is not an extension of the university's websites and publications. ElKevbo (talk) 23:46, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
I understand where you are coming from, and I hear you. I'll go about editing the student life section to mirror that of Georgetown University by formatting and removing specific groups that seem to niche, and move from there. I'm going to go about getting some references for general statements in page, such as the founding date etc. As well working to find those sources, which has proven difficult.
