Missing Information

The proposes route of HS2 railway line. It's given as the image title. I don't know if it's a relevant image without a mention in the transport links section of the article or whether it should be deleted. Local currency???

The article currently says "In the medieval era the town minted its own local currency because local people found regular English currency too high in value for everyday use.", but no source is cited and this seems, prima facie, a very doubtful assertion. Can anyone with good local knowledge substantiate the claim?
