Methods of Soil Contaminant Extraction

edit

The article mentions aeration as a mechanical extraction method. Centrifugation, aeration, chelation and combination methods of these should be mentioned. Methods which might use mechanical shock (to crack / speed up internal attrition of mechanical contaminants in a way which aids their propagation through a watery aerated and centrifuged slurry - as might be the case for glassy substances, or, indeed, for radioactive contaminants in some cases) would be worth mentioning.

Cleanup options

edit

Shouldn't we mention conversion of soil to biochar as well ? There are many commercial installations available to do this, see here, here, and here

Here's one reference indicating that biochar is indeed used for soil decontamination. However, I'm unsure whether they indeed convert the soil to biochar or that they just add it to contaminated soil. KVDP (talk) 13:26, 8 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Polystyrene cleanup

edit

Polysterene beads are often purposely added to potting soil, hereby contaminating it. Perhaps that we can mention this briefly, and mention that mealworms can be added to soil contaminated with it to clean this soil up. [1] Some bacteria, like Pseudomonas putida, can also consume this, but only if the polystyrene is converted to an oil in advance (by heating). See here. So unless a better strain is made from this that doesn't need that pretreatment, it's useless. KVDP (talk) 13:35, 8 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
