this is a valid stub. People collect these things and there is a history to them. that this needs to be re-written is NOT patent nonsense.

Wikipedia:Patent_nonsense "The following, while often regrettable, are not patent nonsense. Check the Deletion policy for information on how to handle these things.: Really poorly written content (See Why Aren't These Pages Copy-edited?) "

Can someone please explain the following to me?

"Shoehorns are known to be one of the most common accesories in Asian societies. Commoners used them back in medievil times to throw at others when they have eaten all the candy from being too horny."

re: merge proposal "shoehorning<shoehorn"

edit

i oppose the (rather dated) proposal to merge shoehorning into shoehorn. the topic treats with very separate concepts & deserves a separate article. it is appropriate that we have a subsection mentioning it here, but it would be a mistake to try to shoehorn the whole shoehorning article in as-a-whole... :p

re: V&A date of 1623

edit

I'm the collator of the Catalogue. I suspect the V&A claim if 1623 is either a typo or a reproduction of a literal made by someone before them. As far as I'm aware, the Burlington Magazine's finish date of 1612 stood until the 1613 shoehorn Mindum made for his wife surfaced in 2010.

re: V&A date of 1623

Correspondence with Hazel Forsyth at the MoL dated 4 June 2015: "The catalogue entry was written by me (Treasures of the Royal Courts…&c); originally for the Russian edition and there is a typographic error – it should be ‘…shoehorns date from 1593 to 1613’ not 1623, and Wayne is correct in picking this up."

Separate page for Mindum

edit

I'm now up to 21 shoehorns by Mindum and am thinking of creating a separate article on Mindum to see if it flushes out any other shoehorns by him. I still don't know where the Drane collection ended up, Evans talks about them but the dates and inscriptions (where known) don't match any of the Evans collection or any that have surfaced since.

Drane Collection

edit

All but one of the Drane collection have surfaced in the Museum of London collection, along with the entire Evans collection.

Sorry User:Cyberbot II, that archive link is also a 404. There is a correct copy at archive.is, https://archive.is/iYMAm/ but we're not allowed to link to that domain.
