Mistake in translation edit
"Melech Haolam" should be translated to "King of the world"--Nitsansh (talk) 18:35, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. While in Modern Hebrew "olam" means "world", in the Jewish liturgy "universe" may be more appropriate. "Olam" fairly clearly refers to the universe as it is now, as opposed to "olam habah", the messianic "world to come". Mo-Al (talk) 23:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually in bilingual Jewish Siddurim (Prayerbooks), it is regularly translated "King of the universe". Artscroll are perhaps the largest publisher of orthodox prayerbooks, and this is the translation they give. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.244.193.216 (talk) 15:58, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
transliteration edit
The transliteration of the last two lines seems a bit off to me:
- שֶׁהֶחֱיָנוּ וְקִיְּמָנוּ וְהִגִּיעָנוּ לַזְּמַן הַזֶּה׃
- she-ecḥeyanu ve'qi'eh'manu va'higiy'anu laz'man hazeh.
Most of those apostrophes, one h and one y appear out of place. A literal (albeit archaic) rendering is shehechĕyānū vǝ-qiyyǝmānū vǝ-higî‘ānū lazzǝman hazzeh. Likely someone can improve on that. —Tamfang (talk) 05:10, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
