Cornwell

According to the Bernard Cornwell website - http://www.bernardcornwell.net/index.cfm?page=12 The story behind the film version of Sharpe's Gold - when they were filming it the actor who was first cast as Sharpe broke his leg. Filming had to stop while an insurance claim was made. Sean Bean then replaced the original actor, but the producers decided that if they re-shot the original script the insurance company would claim they had suffered no real loss. Relation to books

Would it be helpful to list the dates of the original book next to the film title?

Maybe turn the list of episodes into a table something like this:

According to Cromwell's webpage http://www.bernardcornwell.net/index2.cfm?page=1&seriesid=1 he never wrote the stories in order. Should the list of books not be on this page? Also how come this page doesnt mention about "Sharpe the Legend" which was a special episode made in 1997 and is set after the battle of Waterloo where Rifleman Cooper is sitting in a tavern explaining the legend of Sharpe.

Cleanup

Hi gang. It seems to me the Sharpe articles need a serious spring-clean. Here's some thoughts about where I think we should go with this and related articles:

• Finer definition between the books and television series. At the moment, the books don't even seem to have a main article (although they do have a category, oddly). The books main artivle is at Richard Sharpe (fictional character). 82.73.198.140 10:26, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
• Culling of cruft from the article. We can move lists like the episode one to separate articles quite easily, as is done on other wiki pages. The opening of the article needs to be cut down to essentials and the rest distributed into the various required subheadings.
• General extension of the article - the 'discrepancies' section is the biggest part in itself!
• Cutting down of redlinks.

Individual episode pages

There is a big debate going on Wikipedia-wide about the place of individual episode pages, with some editors arguing for a blanking and redirect for all existing pages not fully compliant with WP:EPISODE. It might be worth keeping an eye on the debate at Wikiproject television discussion and Village pump. There are some constructive suggestions by a number of people (with sandbox examples) amidst the emotive mud-slinging. Perhaps we can all contribute and reach a suitable consensus/policy.Gwinva 14:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Mission is before Siege in Order

In the table it lists Siege first, but Mission is actually first. This is evident when watching (Col Calbert is healthy and happy in Mission and utterly destroyed in Siege.

Lieutenant?

Several times this rank is mentioned; shouldn't if be leftenant or however the Brits spell it? Wschart (talk) 17:51, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

"Lieutenant" is the correct spelling in British English; "leftenant" is a mispelling, based on the phonetics, which actually has no place in the English language. -- Sabre (talk) 00:42, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Blu Ray Release

Just wondering if it was appropriate to add some details about the Blu Ray release. Sharpe is an interesting case as it was produced in an age of Standard Definition 4:3 TV, but was shot on film allowing a retrospective conversion to High Definition 16:9. Unlike Firefly (which was in a similar position) it didn't have any visual effects to complicate the matter. Malak1000 (talk) 14:57, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Tongue

Paul Trussell as Rifleman Isaiah Tongue (1993) – disappears after Sharpe's Eagle and never returns, he may be dead or left the army to go back to England. /In Sharpe's Gold (the novel), he was killed off.

Isiah Tongue and Sharpe met again in "Sharpe's Enemy" there Tongue helps Sharpe's to defeat the bunch of the desertes under Hakesville and that French cook. He explained to fellow desertes, he left the army for being unreconised for all his deeds. Cultural Impact, reception, Sean Bean

Hi just reading this article, strange that it mostly seems concerned with how the TV series relates to the books, various discrepancies etc.

There is little or no reference to what people thought of it at the time, how it catapulted Sean beans career, how it has been viewed since. Thinking on it more there is no real discussion of the historical accuracy... and why playing playing a heavy electric guitar rift over your classical music intro is the height of culture!

The exclusion of the "King's German Legion" and the character Captain Lossow

What was the reason to exclude the "King's German Legion" and Captain Lossow? Was and is it still a problem to show how british and german soldiers fought together in the past? --Exodianecross (talk) 22:32, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

You can't stuff everything from the novels into the TV shows. Can't recall if Lossow played a vital role in anything. Nothing springs to mind, so I'm guessing he and the KGL were easy to drop. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:58, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Lossow and the KGL appeared in "Sharpe's Gold" and "Sharpe's Sword". here is an article in the Sharpe wikia: https://sharpe.fandom.com/wiki/Lossow. My point is, the KGL was very important for Wellington, during the campaign on the peninsular and Waterloo! Therefore I attribute it to the "bias" of todays people (viewers) to exclude the character and the unit because the UK and Germany went to war on two occasions in the 20th century! --Exodianecross (talk) 03:24, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Maybe you are right. And I have to admit, I had just liked it to watch Lossow and the KGL adapted for the series. I'm in touch with several reenactment groups, the KGL is one of them. Inclusion of Season Numbers

A change was made recently to incorporate the season numbers into the episode table. Season references see extensive usage, and it's suprising that they weren't included, see for instance the clips on the Sharpe YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZmLOTIMjug), IMDB (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12749392/episodes?ref_=tt_eps_sm), the fact that DVDs are sold referring to them (https://www.amazon.co.uk/BBC-HOME-ENTERTAINMENT-Sharpe-Season/dp/B072LMWH4T), TV guides (https://www.radiotimes.com/programme/b-a9eyxe/sharpe-season-3/)....

User:Bazza_7 doesn't want them included, and would rather revert reasonable edits and demand a discussion, so here it is. Despite citing WP:BRD, they fail to follow it; they fail to note that their revert is in bad faith per WP:ONLYREVERT, and their edit history of the page frankly looks like WP:OWN. 194.83.163.215 (talk) 11:57, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Be careful with your accusations. I'm not sure how four edits in two years prior to your accusation constitutes WP:OWN.

You boldly edited the page; I disagreed with the edit (because there was no evidence given that more than one series of the drama was made) and reverted it. You are obliged to follow WP:BRD, which you chose to ignore by reinstating your edit.

The drama was not originally separated into series, as [1] shows, and this article states. Recent re-broadcasts in the UK have made such distinctions (although having two series of just one episode belies the fact this is done for broadcasters' convenience rather than any production reason): see [2]. If you had included such reliable sources in your edit then I would simply have corrected your erroneous use of "season" and let the information stand.

I am not sure how you reconcile the Drama TV guide stating that the 2006 and 2008 episodes are each in a series of their own, both labelled "Series 1". Note that user-generated content is not a reliable source: this includes IMDB; and the Radio Times Guide is likely unreliable, stating as it does that "series 5" is the latest (which it is not) and was made in 2006 (which it wasn't). I was looking for more sources and found an article from The Daily Mail.[3] Unfortunately some editors have priorities other than making a better encyclopedia and WP:DAILYMAIL is not allowed, not even for reviews.
