Move species to Coronilla edit
It looks like both POWO and WFO list this genus as a synonym of Coronilla, presently. Is there anything I'm missing or should the species pages be moved and this article turned into a redirect or one to explain the historical usage? 🌿MtBotany (talk) 23:43, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- The main thing that gives me pause is iNaturalist; they did something in 2019 (eliminated a duplicate?), and it's been flagged as a synonym of Coronilla (per POWO) since March 2023, with no action yet taken, which suggests there might be something you and I are missing. NZOR and APNI do accept Securigera, but I'm not going put a lot of weight there. LegumeDataPortal treats Securigera as a synonym of Coronilla. The 2023 FNA treatment isn't available online yet, but (per Weakley), FNA apparently accepts Securigera. Plantdrew (talk) 01:16, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Huh. That is intriguing. This made me think to look in Ackerfield's Flora of Colorado (2nd Ed. 2022) and she also has Securigera. Thanks @Plantdrew I'll put a pin in this and come back to in a year or so and see if there is greater clarity from sources. - Flora of Oregon (2020), Flora Neomexicana (2020) and the Botanical Society of the British Isles website recognize Securigera. With APNI, NZOR, Weakley and FNA it's looking like recent sources covering the entire English speaking world are going with Securigera (not that it's native to any English-speaking regions). - This surprised me, because I remembered various local sources flipping from Coronilla to Securigera about 10 years ago or more, but looking at [1] (p. 804) some phylogenetic evidence for lumping didn't make it into Legumes of the World which may explain it. I have not yet pursued Sokoloff's 2003 paper (in Russian). Choess (talk) 01:57, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Sokoloff is definitely driving the synonymy. He's cited (personal communication) by POWO, and established combinations in Coronilla for two species that were first described as Securigera by Lassen. In the linked paper he recognizes a subgenus Securigera and it is monophyletic. Plantdrew (talk) 17:59, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
