Etymology: Dispute over origins of Scugog? edit
I've seen several disputes over the origin of the word "Scugog."
Is it an Ojibwe term meaning "marshy (or muddy) waters" or is it an Mississaugian word meaning "waves leap over a canoe." There is a section under the Lake Scugog article with some additional information.
I'm leaning towards it meaning "marshy waters" as the river tends to be extremely marsh like in some sections and the water often becomes cloudy from mud.
