People of San Mateo has to go to Marikina City for their daily needs, Before 1962. The public market is located at General Luna, M.H. Del Pilar and Kambal Street. The Municipal officials under the leadership of Mayor Florencio Esteban. They encourage Sari-Sari store vendors developed the market. Some of them support the ordinance OThe response is lukewarm. The vendor open early morning and close early and move all of the products to their home. Menting Santos from Dulong Bayan is a Rice merchant and Gravel and Sand businessman, looking for a supply source of rice visited his cousin in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija named Adriano Balcos. Who was encourage to move to San Mateo. At first they stayed with relatives for lodging. He is was known As mang Danoy to the locals. He started selling with one tables. The whole family also use the tables a bed in the evening storage all of their product under the table. Their effort was rewarded by the local officials with the concession of establishment of domiciles inside the public market. From the floor area of 4x8 feet it prosper to a 20x40 feet stall and was named Tindahan ni Aling Trining . Mang Danoy introduce the first Coconut Shedders and the Rice grinders making life easy to prepare rice cake and cooking all coconut milk milk base local delicacies. His daughter Anastacia(Married to Ramon Diaz) Established a Noodle Soup(Mami) and Halo Halo stand a popular treat of the days. Tia Pilar is the most noted meat vendor, Aling Oliva, Amanda, Aling Cely and Aling ading are several of the pioneers vendors. They have the fresh meat that you can buy. The slaughterhouse is attach to the market you can hear and smell the pig, chicken and pig being killed. In the seventies the market was renovated creating more stalls and became popular. In 2000 they another renovation that resulted for vendors to established store along M.H. Del Pilar street . They added a second floor who later became a school. San Mateo because of its proximity to Metro Manila grow ten folds and market sprouted to other Barangays, Most Noted is the Ampid Market. Because of no expansion it now only service the local area. May i suggest to include the origin of every barangays name in san mateo rizal as a reference for student and for their additional knowledge so that they know the answer if someone ask them about the name of their barangay where it came from.
