Although here San Bernardo is consider as a city from Chile itself, The IGM (Instituto Geografico Militar de Chile) which is the authorized official voice for the geographical structure of Chile, considers San Bernardo as a Municipality dependant of the Capital City of Santiago which itself is under the Metropolitan Region. Therefore the city of Santiago (which is the city itself) is formed by a number of different Municipalities (which are actually like city districts)among them San Bernardo which is therefore regarded as a city district or Municipality (comuna) and not as a city itself. Please see www.igm.cl for further inquiries.
