There is a discrepancy between dates of when he was postmaster and superintendent of schools between the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress and The University of Tennessee Special Collections Library. Since the The University of Tennessee Special Collections Library has his documents, I figured that they paid more attention to him than some clerk inputing data for Congress and I went with the University dates.
