The three stripes on the collar
editWhen I got my first Donald Duck suit (as member of the swedish navy) we where told not only the story about the black scarf, but also that the three stripes represent Abukir, Copenhagen and Trafalgar. Nelson's three biggest victories.
Anyone have a source for this (except my 20+ year old remembering a rambling cadet).
I have heard the same - I think in Baden-Powell's Scouting for Boys.--DuncanHill 21:19, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Striped shirt
editI want to know what is the story behind the striped t-shirts worn by sailors. Were they part of the uniforms?
- i think it's just a cliché popularized by Popeye. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.206.124.228 (talk) 04:12, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
Which navy?
editThe article begins, "A sailor suit is a uniform traditionally worn by enlisted seamen in the navy, and other government funded sea services." But which navy and which government? Is the sailor suit universal in all world navies, or just in some Western navies such as the British and it derivative American navy? --O'Dea (talk) 03:05, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
