Russian players in Australia edit

A year or so ago a couple of Russian players got contracts for Aussie teams (possibly NRL teams can't remember). Worth a mention I'd have thought.GordyB 21:48, 25 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yer... was this previous there and I deleted it? Its important to put it in its right place. Also, it wasnt really contracts. The west tigers gave some russians a "go" for a few weeks or maybe more. They traineed with them and they put the russians through their paces, but nothing actualy came of it! POds 02:59, 26 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Early History edit

It says in the article that Rugby League was played in the Soviet Union before World War I. How was the sport introduced into the country at that stage? Did a Northern Union touring side play there?

Maybe or perhaps it had more to do with russians wanting to get compensation for playing, like in Northern England and other nations. Theres not a lot of information on it at all! :( POds 23:36, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Er, the Societ Union didn't exixt until 1921, perhaps this should be WWII? I'm a bit sceptical about that claim really. The NU/RFL didn't really show any interest in other places until the 1950s (exhibition tours to Italy and Yugoslavia). Grinner 10:55, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I can't find any reference on Wikipedia relating to either version of Rugby being played in the Soviet Union/Russia in the early 20th century. Sjgenius 19:25, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
You cant write wikipedia articles using only other wikipedia pages. That would be a duplicate of information. There are various sources on the internet that points to rugby league being played around the 1st or 2nd World War. If you want to find out any specifics, you'd have to talk too people of that era who played rugby league or perhaps you could track down a good book at your favourite book shop or library? POds 11:51, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Aye, but if there's info on the internet then could you provide a link? I'm doubtful about the claim myself. Grinner 12:19, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
No worries. I'll c if i can trake one down. POds 13:34, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm, its already on there, has been there for quite some time. However, when i finish some of my other things, I will revert all rugby league pages or at least the ones I've done to use the special foot notes template wikipedia have now. Much better way of doing things, rather then leaving the references section at the bottom. POds 13:48, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

So it is! Apologies for not noticing. The link lacks detail but very intersting nonetheless. Grinner 14:36, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I wonder why this page isn't also available in Russian--Jeff79 01:20, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Russian Rugby League.jpg edit

Image:Russian Rugby League.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Updated table edit

Updated the table to include the teams from the 2008 season according to the Vereya website, there is now only 6 teams instead of the 10 of 2006, though not all the clubs have folded and some seem to still play matches, though I can't find confirmation of whether this is the only division or not, so I'll leave that questio unanswered unless I find any evidence one way or the other. 80.176.144.237 (talk) 19:29, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
