The theatre is due to close after the 2006-7 season of all Shakespeare's plays so that rebuilding can be done.

Photos illustrating redevelopment edit

This article desperately needs photos showing the redevelopment. All the current images come from 2006 or earlier. Exok (talk) 00:01, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

There are a number of images on the Geograph project that can be used, those on the first page of this query have recent images with the tower in view.
If you want any and cannot upload yourself let me know which images you require and I can upload to Commons for you. Keith D (talk) 00:32, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Keith. I don't know how to get photographs from Geograph to Commons, so if you could help me I'd welcome that. This is an image I would like to add to the article: [1]. Exok (talk) 00:46, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just spotted we already have File:Royal Shakespeare Theatre.jpg on Commons. I have uploaded the one you wanted as File:Royal Shakespeare Theatre 2011.jpg. Keith D (talk) 02:06, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help. I'll try to put some time into learning more about finding and uploading photos. Exok (talk) 15:32, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Detroit Publishing Company - Shakespeare's Memorial Theatre, Stratford-on-Avon, England.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on April 26, 2014. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2014-04-26. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:35, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

The Shakespeare Memorial Theatre (pictured here in a late 19th-century photochrom) was a theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, beside the River Avon, constructed in 1879 to commemorate the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare. This theatre burned down in 1926, and was replaced by the Elisabeth Scott-designed Royal Shakespeare Theatre, which still stands.Photochrom: Detroit Publishing Company; restoration: Adam Cuerden
