There is no source provided to support the assertion that Browne is most known for his role in Soap, which he appeared in only 16 times during the series' last, and lowest-rated, season in which it was ranked 46 [1]. This line in the article has been amended.

Spider-Man

I think it's worth mentioning his voicework for the cartoon in the main article, beyond the list. Year of Birth

The Social Security Death Records available through Rootsweb give Browne's birthdate as May2, 1922, not May 2,1925 as given in the article.The death dates are the same.

Obie Award

I have been trying to source the awards section for this article, as well as finding significant awards which have been omitted. But despite the article saying Browne won an Obie Award in 1965, I have found no definitive corroborating source. The 1965 Obie Awards archives themselves list the Robert Lowell play "The Old Glory" as winning the award for Best American Play; but it lists James Earl Jones for the play "Baal" under distinguished performances, with no mention of Browne's work in that play. An archive search of the entire decade of the 1960s for Browne also uncovered nothing.

Adding to the confusion, while several sources reference Browne winning the Obie in 1965 for "The Old Glory," one seemingly informed source notes the following - with errors (at least, according to the Obie archies) boldfaced:

First produced in 1965, when it won an Obie Award as part of the Robert Lowell trilogy “The Old Glory,” BENITO CERENO has not been seen in New York since a 1976 revival.

Based on Melville’s novel, BENITO CERENO is set in 1770 and depicts the mysterious events that occur when an American merchant vessel comes upon a battered Spanish ship with its nearly all-black crew and a white captain, Benito Cereno...

In Horizon Theatre Rep’s production of BENITO CERENO, Mr. Jorsling plays Babu, a role created by the late Roscoe Lee Browne, for which he won an Obie Award. The 1965 production of Lowell’s play also won Obies for actors Frank Langella and Lester Rawlins, and costume designer Willa Kim.

Known principally as a poet, Robert Lowell won the Pulitzer Prize in 1947 for “Lord Weary’s Castle,” and in 1974 for “The Dolphin.” He won the National Book Award for Poetry in 1960 for “Life Studies,” and served as U.S. Poet Laureate from 1947-48. His trilogy “The Old Glory” is comprised of BENITO CERENO; MY KINSMAN, MAJOR MOLINEUX; and ENDECOTT AND THE RED CROSS, all essentially plays about American history.

The italicized section does explain the confusion of some sources saying Browne won the Obie for "The Old Glory," while others say he won it for "Benito Cereno." Obviously, I'd prefer not to remove the Obie Award from his list of awards in the article. But without corroboration, I don't believe in good conscience, I can leave it as is either. Thoughts? • I should also note that the article on The Old Glory also notes the play won 5 Obies. For the playwright, the costume designer and 3 performers, including Browne. However, none of the four sources listed corroborate this claim. X4n6 (talk) 01:31, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Lincoln University roles

My father attended Lincoln from 1950 to '52 and again from '54-56 after an interruption for military service. I believe he said Browne was his track coach as well as his English professor. Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks.Carlaclaws (talk) 19:33, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Problem with Early life and education section school and military dates

The timeframe of his Army enlistment and college attendance conflict or are at least unclear. It currently says Browne graduated high school in '39 and graduated from Lincoln University in '46 with a bachelor's. The problem is it also states he was with the 92nd Infantry Division in Italy during WWII. The Allies invaded Italy in '43 and if it's correct he started the division's track and field team so that means things were stable enough for that to take place. If a bachelor's traditionally takes four years to complete these dates don't seem to work.

His dates of Army enlistment and separation need to be clarified as well as his dates of school attendance if it was interrupted by WWII. Docsavage20 (talk) 20:26, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
