This article current reads like someone's résumé and is in need of inline citations. Please help improve the article, rather than just removing the tags. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:25, 10 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • On a related note, comments left by the primary editor of this article elsewhere indicate that she is the subject's daughter; I have therefore added the {{coi}} tag to this article. --Kinu t/c 21:18, 10 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am his daughter, but I am also a gallery owner and representative for his work, and other artists for the last 9 years. I am also an art consultant, appraiser and manager of artists, and thus am not simply doing this as his daughter or manager, but because he is considered one of the top artists to have come out of New Orleans the last century and since Hurricane Katrina, his artwork depicting Katrina's aftermath has been an important visual aid to the recovery of the city. Thanks, Nolady (talk) 21:26, 10 October 2009 (UTC)nolady And I welcome any and all assistance on this page. Nolady (talk) 21:27, 10 October 2009 (UTC)nolady I would highly welcome any and all assistance in the editing of this article - I am adding only relevant info and information that is found in books on him, articles in magazines, etc - just facts and no personal or subjective info. I am learning to edit and it is quite confusing and I want the article to be a good wikipedia article - but it all takes time. So, anyone who can help with advice, etc - I appreciate it all! My user name stands for new orleans lady, as in nolady - not that I am "no lady"...thanks Nolady (talk) 05:28, 11 October 2009 (UTC)noladyReply

  • Hello, just a few pointers on community policies and guidelines to help you. Your personal relation to the subject of the article is fine, you just have to make certain to keep your contributions in line with the goals of the encyclopedia. Writing with a neutral point of view (wp:npov) and using information from reliable sources (wp:rs) with correct citations (wp:cite) creates articles of high quality. The content of an article should mostly be from published sources such as newspapers so the information is verifiable. My personal knowledge and research indicates that Rolland Golden is definitely a notable artist, and his Katrina related work has attracted enough media attention that it should be easy to find good references from newspapers and magazines. I hope you understand the reasons for these policies, because many non-notable artists would like to have a Wikipedia page and many people are confused about the goals of an encyclopedia vs. promotional material. I agree the editing guidelines and community policies can be complicated and confusing. Ben Kidwell (talk) 18:00, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Ben! I do undertand the reasons behind the guidelines for wikipedia inclusion, and I do intend on keeping the article neural and have verifiable information only - there are newspaper articles, as well as magazines and books from which I am drawing information and such from. I would like to include several quotes, from the director of the N.O. Museum of Art on the impact of my father's work post-katrina, as well as the art critic, etc - I think it is ok to use their quotes, as long as I add the footnote, and an external link to where I got it, correct? Thanks again, and I will continue to work on it, and other art sites/pages. Nolady (talk) 00:45, 14 October 2009 (UTC)noladyReply

  • Yes, commentary from sources such as art critics and museum directors is certainly appropriate. It is also fine to provide some context and summary as long as it is consistent with the sources and doesn't synthesize new claims. Thank you for your help -= and all help. Will be working on this a good deal more next week and looking at other artists articles for guidance in template forms, etc. Thanks as always! Nolady (talk) 19:22, 16 October 2009 (UTC)noladyReply
