This page seems very opinionated. Seems like it might even have been written by an opponent of Mr. Asher. I'm going to add some citations where I can but I think a lot of this needs to be rewritten or removed completely. --Colinbartlett 16:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, Mr. Asher is a polarizing figure in Pennsylvania politics. Many of the accusations that are levels at him (he's corrupt/a felon) go without the necessary context. The ideal wiki for him will be able to give this context so that people can decide for themselves what they think of him. As far as the tone of the article, any wiki article about him will sound negative on account of his past felony conviction. --PAPolitico 20:56, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Connection to Dwyer edit

I think the article needs a mention of Mr. Asher's connection to Budd Dwyer.

The Dwyer suicide was a very famous and important incident in Pennsylvania's political history. In a lot of ways it became the symbol of the state's political corruption in that time (where 200+ state officials were convicted of corruption). It was also an important event in US media history and even pop culture. Most people of that era have a recollection of the politician who killed himself on live TV. The fact that Mr. Asher was Dwyer's co-defendant in that case gives a lot of context to some of the criticisms that he is facing from his political opponents and within his party.

For those reasons, I have included that reference. Perhaps the reference needs to be cleaned up or edited for style, for I am still new at wikipedia. --PAPolitico 20:53, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Things to Research/Add edit

Mr. Asher is Pennsylvania's GOP national committeeman and a major Guiliani fund-raiser. That alone justifies this wiki entry. But, the article needs some major work:

  • More info on Asher's feud with Bruce Castor, Bob Guzzardi, and other conservative activists
  • More references supporting information on his 1986 federal conviction
  • More on his unique return to power and public rehabilitation after being released from prison
  • More info about his connection to Rudy's presidential campaign; as well as his supported state candidates in upcoming elections
  • Fundraising and PAC donation figures
