Sir Robert Andrew Burns (born on 21 July 1943), generally known as Sir Andrew Burns - is a former diplomat in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. From July 2005 until January 2007, he was the International Governor of the BBC. [1] He is also Chairman of the College Council of Royal Holloway, University of London.
Education edit
He was educated at Highgate School, Highgate, Middlesex, England. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University with a Master of Arts (M.A.).
Diplomatic career edit
He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1965 and 2003. He held the offices of:
- British Ambassador to Israel between 1992 and 1995;
- British Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau between 1997 and 2000; and
- British High Commissioner to Canada between 2000 and 2003.
Honours and Decorations edit
He was invested as a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (C.M.G.) in 1992, and as a Knight of the order (K.C.M.G.) in 1997. He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.) in 1997
