This may be a poster case for inaccuracies on findagrave, since it shows him dying on March 15, 1859, whereas the census shows him as dying in January 1860. Nonetheless, the DBE article is imperfect, as is findagrave, in only naming one son and one daughter. I'm curious to know if his sons fought for the Confederacy, but don't have time for further research on this man. For what it's worth, his estate does not appear as a slaveholder in the 1860 slave schedule (either a function of the census-taker or quick probate process), but David W. Barton (whose sons did fight for the Confederacy) shows as owning 19 slaves, even though he did not figure in the 1850 slave schedule.Jweaver28 (talk) 20:48, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
