Can anyone tell me the origins of the Godolphin and the Walmesley middle names? user:Eltharian 15 April 2007

The name of Godolphin came into the Long family after the marriage in 1760 of Richard Long of Rood Ashton, to Meliora Lambe. Her parents had died & her guardian was William Godolphin, though I'm not sure of his exact relationship. Her great aunt Ruth Lambe (dau of Sir John Lambe) m. Sir William Godolphin. They lived at Coulston, Wiltshire. I have not investigated them further than this.
The name Walmesley was introduced when Richard & Meliora's granddaughter Ellen Long married John Walmesley in 1812, 3rd s. of John, Esq., of The Hall of Ince, Preston, Lancs. and Mary, dau. of William Shaw, of Singleton, Lancs.Brograve 22:50, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
