Dr. Orefice has reviewed this Wikipedia page, and provided us with the following comments to improve its quality:
I'd update the article by adding the following paragraphs:
"The RCA index proposed by Balassa (1965) has been modified in the literature in order to fit some empirical properties needed for a correct use of the index in econometric tests. The RCA index was "re-normalized" by Proudman and Redding (2000) and by Laursen (2000) in order to show symmetric distribution. Proudman and Redding (2000) propose a version of the RCA index in which the share of country over worldwide sectorial export is weighted by the arithmetic mean of export shares."
"The main critic to the traditional RCA indices is that they are not theoretically consistent. A recent contribution by Costinot et al. (2012) fixed this problem. The authors propose a theoretically grounded version of the index able to isolate the exporter-sector specific factors that drive trade flows, which reflects the original idea of Ricardian comparative advantage. The new comparative advantage index has been calculated by CEPII economist (see Leromain and Orefice 2014) and is freely available for researchers. "
