Screen sizes edit
User:Avi8tor: regarding the use of inches for screen sizes in France, please read fr:Téléviseur#Comparaison de formats. Also see MOS:UNIT, in particular this quote: ...the primary units chosen will be SI units (such as kilograms), non-SI units officially accepted for use with the SI, or such other units as are conventional in reliable-source discussions of the article topic (such as revolutions per minute (rpm) for rotational speed, hands for heights of horses, etc.).
. A quick search reveals a large number of French-language results with 10.2 pouces for the Talisman's screen. Screens are generally and universally referred to in thumbs (inches) because of inertia, so that is what we will do, too. Also please read WP:BRD instead of just re-reverting. - I agree with Mr.choppers, he makes the point better than I could do. Even in the few countries where they may (rarely) give you centimetres/millimetres for screen sizes (a few in Continental Europe) it's just an extra and the primary unit is still inches (pouces, pollici, pulgadas, and so on...). - Per the Wikepedia Manual of Style MOS:UNIT, "If the article does not concern the USA or the UK then the primary units chosen will be SI units (such as kilograms), non-SI units officially accepted for use with the SI, or such other units as are conventional in reliable-source discussions of the article topic (such as revolutions per minute (rpm) for rotational speed, hands for heights of horses, etc.)". This is clearly stated in the MOS, you are trying to make up your own manual of style or trying to carve out your own exemptions.
- The French Wikipedia has an article on screen sizes because items sold internationally often have inches and because readers who speak French probably do not understand inches, the same applies to readers outside the USA and the UK who speak English. Avi8tor (talk) 13:01, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- The text quoted by both of us (I don't know how you can accuse me of making up my own, it is literally the identical text - did you not read what you quoted?) reflects that non-SI units shall be the primary unit for those topics where non-SI is conventionally used. Examples include wheel sizes, screen sizes, horse height, and so on. As you can see in the French sources regarding the Talisman as well as the TV screen size section, the French use inches to describe screen sizes, with a sometime inclusion of mm or cm (as do Germans, Swedes, and possibly everyone else in the world).
