I've never seen the movie fully through so I am unsure of the terminology used within the film but in Australia (where I live) a large property (in the order of a thousand square kilometres, can be orders of magnitude greater or smaller) is called a 'station' not a 'ranch'. If the plot description does not follow the script in using the term ranch then it should possibly be changed. Quigley, being American, uses the American terminology while the Australian characters use that of Australia. Wschart (talk) 17:07, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Anachronism

If it's set in the 1860s, it's impossible for him to have an 1874 Sharps catridge rifle. No dates are actually given in the film, and the complete lack of other cartridge weapons is very anachronistic to the point of a flaw.Mzmadmike (talk) 04:17, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

Meat pie Westerns

Sweetpool50: I've just spent an awful lot of time on reading up on Meat pie Westerns, (especially since I'm not a particular fan of any kind of Western - got dragged into it via two other articles) and updating that article as per what I could find about the genre. If you read up there, and this citation amongst others, you will see that this film has been categorised thus. I don't feel strongly about it but just don't have the time/energy to add more to this article now. I don't think that your revert was justified without reading up first - I made the change with some justification and after a lot of work. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:20, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

The film does not meet the criteria given in the Wikipedia article on meat-pie Westerns. Its historical period is ambiguous and its main focus is on the superiority of the American ethos to the Australian (which was questionable then, anyway, and would hardly be endorsed by Australians at any time), both in terms of the script and of the ranch-owner's fixation on the Western. The film's inclusion in a newspaper article (by a historical correspondant, not a film critic) is hardly conclusive. If there is a trustworthy Australian source that includes the film, that would be.
