Crew - Second?

When I worked for National Mobile Television each mobile production unit had what we called a "Second", or Maintenance Engineer. They weren't necessarily educated as engineers, often just very experienced and trusted utilities, but nonetheless the term Second was used because they ranked just below the EIC himself. If the EIC can be thought of as akin to an officer, the Second would be his sergeant; the individual who made sure orders were followed, things got done, and everything didn't fall apart.

I have moved the majority of the History section from the Outside broadcasting page to here. I have added some more information and references here, but I think we need to expand on the history of production trucks further than just a discussion of the BBC's vehicles. Particularly we should discuss:

early ITV trucks (ABC Marconi units)
early international trucks
