Ungrammatical & obscure parethesis

edit

I've removed

(Perictione in Colophon book by Roger Scruton)

because it's unclear what it means, or what it's supposed to add. --87.112.89.202 (talk) 16:39, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

[Later]

I think that it's an unformatted reference to Scruton's book in the references, so it isn't needed. This does raise another problem, though: I can find no reference to this Perictione anywhere but in copies of this article (she's not mentioned in the article on Speusippus either). Scruton's book involves fictional characters, and it looks very likely that Perictione is fictional too. I don't have a copy to hand, but I'll check when I get the chance. --87.112.89.202 (talk) 16:52, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

[Later still]

This abstract strongly suggests that the character of Perictione is a humorous fiction (judging by the original editor's addition, he or she took seriously the conceit of Scruton's having translated a newly-discovered ancient dialogue). Until some genuine evidence for her existence can be offered, I think that the reference to Perictione should be removed, or included only as a reference to Scruton's book. --87.112.89.202 (talk) 16:57, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
