Pomponia's relatives
editThe paragraph detailing Pomponia's relatives needs some backing up. "Asinia Pollionis filia" is Latin for "Asinia, daughter of Pollio" - where does this come from? What is the source for Pomponius Graecinus marrying Asinius Pollio's daughter? --Nicknack009 14:58, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- There is a Asinia Pollionis f(ilia) Asini Celeris known to us from an inscription found in Tusculum (CIL XIV 259). It is possible that she was originally a daughter of Gaius Asinius Pollio (consul in 23 AD), but was adopted by her uncle Servius Asinius Celer. Maybe she is to be identified with Asinia Agrippina, (another) daughter of Asinius Celer. However, there is no direct indication in our sources for a marriage between Pomponius Graecinus and an Asinia, except for the passage of Tacitus mentioning Pomponia Graecina morning over the death of Iulia Drusi Caesaris. From this passage it is derived that Pomponia was a relative of her and therefore would be a descendant of Vipsania Agrippina and Gaius Asinius Gallus. The mother of Pomponia (M.-Th. Raepsaet-Charlier, F.O.S. nr. 640.) is mentioned in Ovids lettres to Graecinus (if of course she is his daughter!), but her name is not mentioned. Therefore we can't compare names.
