Australian Term? edit

I don't think this is the correct Australian term, or that it has been in common use in Australia for a long time. Any input on this? I'm happy to be proven wrong :) 121.223.128.48 (talk) 04:44, 12 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I can confirm this is a fairly old term in common usage in Australia and New Zealand. Also, the citations needed for "goon" can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box_wine 50.126.104.122 (talk) 03:42, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I believe it comes from the AIF in France 1916-1918, from "vin blanc". Lathamibird (talk) 13:58, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Canada Too edit

I wouldl like to add that is is used in Canada, as I know that it is used by everyone I know. Not sure how to reference it though. Bananatruck (talk) 21:51, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have used the term in the US, and those I have mentioned it to know exactly what I mean. JHobson3 (talk) 13:21, 21 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've also used it in the US. For a while some years ago the Boston Globe called its wine column "Plonk by the glass," not intending to be disrespectful but to signal a bargain. The American Heritage dictionary (on line) says the word is chiefly British but a quick search turns up several wine shops and wine bars in the US calling themselves Plonk. So I think the word has spread through more of the Anglophone world. A. Mahoney (talk) 20:46, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
