There was a problem with the wikipedia's premetro article -- two problems really: First, it was largely composed of original research, listing lots of systems as "premetro" systems when no references to verifiable, authoritative references characterized them as "premetro" systems; Second, dozens of fanciful incoming links were made to the premetro articles, from articles about systems that weren't premetro systems.

The premetro article has been largely scaled back, so it only describes the limited number of systems where references describe the system as a premetro system. But, as of today, the dozens of specious incoming links remained.

Did it ever make sense to write that the replacement for this old line was planned to be a "premetro" line? Rather than leave a dubious tag, I rewrote the offending passage. For the assertion that this replacement was a "premetro" line to be meaningful more would be required than that some or all of the line was to be built in an underground right of way. Light rail lines are built in underground rights of way.

What is the difference between a heavy rail line, and a light rail line built in a grade separated right of way? The heavy rail line will use longer train-set, capable of carrying more passengers, per train-set. This requires longer stations, with more capacious passenger waiting areas and more capacious passenger passageways. If the system crosses bridges, those bridges have to be built strongly enough to carry the heavier train-sets. Heavy rail train-sets typically require very broad turning circles.

A limitied number of light-rail systems have been built with provision made to convert the line to heavy rail, when and if ridership demanded higher-capacity train-sets.

If no one ever suggested that the replacement for the Piraeus-Perama light railway would ever reach the ridership where it made sense to replace it with a genuine heavy rail system, then it is not meaningful to call it a "premetro" system, without regard to whether the entire line were to use an underground right of way.
