Dean of the College of Cardinals edit
The following sentence occurs: "He became dean of the College of Cardinals ca. 1126.[citation needed]". There are several things wrong:
- The sentence is unreferenced.
- There was as yet (1126) no "college" of cardinals. The earliest reference (arguably) is in 1153.
- There was as yet no such office as "Dean". There was only a "prior episcoporum", 'the senior bishop'. Cardinal Pietro is never called "Dean" in the sources.
- The date of 1126 is only the date of the latest known signature of Cardinal Crescentius, Bishop of Sabina, the 'prior episcoporum' (21 July 1126). There is a lamentable habit of ending a cardinal's life the minute after his latest subscription. Pietro's successor as Bishop of Sabina, Cardinal Conradus, is first attested on 7 May 1128.
