The Accolade

The bronze statuette of Arabian horses—per the file PJ Mène - Tachiani et Nedjebé, chevaux arabes.jpg—is more commonly entitled "L'Accolade". It is one of Mêne's most celebrated works and was cast in three sizes at heights of 41.1cm, 33.5 cm and smaller. The signature reads 'P. J. MÊNE'. The signature followed by date 1851 is not original and probably a fake recasting. The present picture also shows signs of either faulty casting or serious damage, e.g., to the ears, tail and a leg. I intend to replace it in the near future with an image of undamaged work with better provenance. Bjenks (talk) 09:00, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
