Proposal for Peter Alexander disambiguation page
editThere are now two Peter Alexanders on Wikipedia:
- Peter Alexander, (born 1926), the Austrian actor and singer.
- Peter Alexander (English actor), (born 1952) the UK-based TV and theatre actor.
A search of Google indicates that neither could be regarded as the "prime topic". In fact the top answer is a brand of Australian sleepwear.
According to WP:DAB, therefore, neither page should be entitled simply "Peter Alexander", and there should be a new disambiguation page with that title.
I therefore propose to move the current Peter Alexander content to a new page called Peter Alexander (Austrian actor and singer). The Peter Alexander page will then become the disambiguation page.
I would welcome comments from editors on this proposal. This proposal will be left on the talk pages of both Peter Alexanders. Peteinterpol (talk) 16:11, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- Move now completed. Peteinterpol (talk) 10:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- It would have been nice if you also had corrected the links at Special:WhatLinksHere/Peter_Alexander, as is customary. Whether primary topic or not, to preserve the validity of internal and external links, the original title should have remained and a new page, e.g. "Peter Alexander (disambiguation)", combined with a hatnote would have been much less disruptive. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:57, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for that; that's a helpful comment. I see what you mean about the links shown at Special:WhatLinksHere/Peter_Alexander; I should have sorted that out. This was the first disambiguation page I had created, though I had previously taken advice from two experienced Wikipedia editors at the appropriate reference desk when a disambiguation page was needed in similar circumstances for the multiple Daniel Sandfords. (Someone else read the conversation and did the actual moving around of pages for that case). They did not advise retaining the Daniel Sandford page with its original owner as you have advised for Peter Alexander, because there, as here, there was no obvious primary topic.
- I think in the end we have the right result here, especially as there are now three people on the Peter Alexander disambiguation page, so hatnotes might not have worked. However, once again apologies for not sorting the links out. I will certainly do so next time a similar situation arises. Best wishes, Peteinterpol (talk) 19:38, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
