Talk:Perry Mason (TV film series)

Untitled edit

On the Perry Mason TV series page it is stated that Paul Sorvino starred in the show after the death of Raymond Burr. Perhaps it should be stated clearly that he did not play Perry mason, but a lawyer named 'Anthony Caruso", and neither did Hal Holbrook. He played a character named "Bill McKenzie". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhaldackein (talkcontribs) 22:06, 28 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 25 October 2018 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Consensus to move to Perry Mason (TV film series). There is some opposition to just "film series", but full support and no opposition to including TV in the disambiguation. (non-admin closure) В²C 18:12, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Perry Mason (TV movies)Perry Mason (film series) – It took me a long time to figure out the "appropriate" title to move this article to!... Under WP:NCTV, we don't diambiguate with "TV movie" or "TV film", but simply with "film". As this article covers a long series of some 30-odd different TV movies, it is correctly a "film series" (specifically, a "TV film series"), and so is properly disambiguated that way. (Surprisingly, there is not a Jesse Stone (film series) article to point to as an example, like I was expecting...) --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:48, 25 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

There would be no point in covering both the TV film and the theatrical film series in the same article – they are two completely separate topics. But, again, I will point out that none of the theatrical films actually contain the words "Perry Mason" in their titles. 16:53, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
That doesn't really matter. The sources that I could find refer to these films as "Perry Mason films" which in WikiLanguage would mean "Parry Mason (film series)". Also, the official WB modern release set calls them "Perry Mason Mysteries". Also, I'll point you to James Bond (film series), which none have "James Bond" in the title. --Gonnym (talk) 17:11, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
To be clear again, I don't actively "oppose" Perry Mason (TV film series) as the solution – while I do think it's probably unnecessary disambiguation, that's sometimes OK, and Perry Mason (TV film series) is clearly an improvement over the current title. --IJBall (contribstalk) 12:43, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
To be fair, we either create an article called Perry Mason in film like James Bond in film and Batman in film and throw all films, TV and theatrical in there (which I've never liked), or this and split them (with the Perry Mason theatrical films eventually getting their own article, as I'm sure those 6 films could easily qualify for a series article. --Gonnym (talk) 12:58, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

Any additional comments:
  •   Note: As per Perry Mason#Film, there is 1930s (theatrical) "film series" (of 6 films) featuring Perry Mason as well, though none of the films use "Perry Mason" in their titles. Still, if people are worried about confusion, and want additional disambiguation, there are two options:
  1. Perry Mason (TV film series). Or,
  2. Perry Mason (1985 film series).
But the current article title is no good, under WP:NCTV (or WP:NCFILM). --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:54, 25 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
While I wouldn't object to this outcome, I actually think "TV" is unnecessary disambiguation in this case – I think it's best moved to just Perry Mason (film series), with a clear hatnote to Perry Mason#Film included for anyone looking for the theatrical film series (which, I will note again, do not even include the words "Perry Mason" in any of their titles!)... But I'm not unilaterally opposed to the occasional "extra/unnecessary disambiguation" either, so if it ends up going to "TV film series", I'll be fine with it. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:39, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I agree with this article being moved to "Perry Mason (film series)". — WFinch (talk) 20:51, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
