Is periodicity really measured as frequency (that is in hertz). IMHO a period is something that can be measured in seconds. In other words, the period is the inverse of the frequency.

Cleanup

This is not a very satisfactory disambiguation page. It is a combination of at least three different types of entries:

1. Items that are called "periodicity" or "periodic" (although the latter arguably belong on the Period disambiguation page), which is what a disambiguation page is supposed to contain,
2. Dictionary definitions, and
3. A list of things that have some periodic property, but are not called "periodicity".

A possible way of resolving this mess would be to merge all the true disambiguation entries to Period and changing this page into a "List of periodic phenomena" or something of the sort; but it is a confusing enough situation that I'd like to get some other views before proceeding. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:49, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I looked through All pages with titles containing period, and also consulted a dictionary. This is how the words with the root word "period" break down:

• • period - punctuation
  • period - a time segment within which there are similar characteristics (non-repetitive) (similar word: era)
  • period, periodic, periodical - a time segment or other kind of segment returning to a similar condition, or its duration or length (repetitive)
  • periodization - making history into periods (or eras) (non-repetitive)
  • periodicity - the characteristic of being periodic (repetitive)

The root word "period" and is variations are generic, so they are used in many fields, with dozens of Wikipedia articles. Each of these words have other words with similar meanings. So the problem is bigger than this one page. Perhaps the solution is to redirect "periodicity" to the article "period" and include all the variations there as a jumping off place, because the disambiguation page for "period" already has a mix of meanings. Perhaps the page for "period" should become an article with a discussion. Perhaps "periodicity" does not deserve a page of its own, because it is just a noun form of the adjective "periodic".
